Apse of the Convent of San Francisco
An apse of English Gothic, the sole survivor of a vanished convent.
It is the only surviving part of the former convent of San Francisco. The original convent was built in the 13th century and remodelled in the 14th, a reform linked to Catherine of Lancaster, wife of Henry III.
From that connection comes its English Gothic influence: tall narrow windows, pointed arches and buttresses. The complex suffered damage from the French invasion and the confiscations of Mendizábal.
